Welcome to the Week {v.6}

RECAP
1  |  We celebrated Christmas in a Log Cabin while in Tennessee & it was the coziest! Speaking of Tennessee, did see our big news?!?

2  |  Over the past couple years I have learned SO much about marriage and holidays. Christmas is all about traditions & family - the old & the new! This is the Christmas quilt that we sleep on every year at my mother-in-laws & it's something that I've learned to love!

3  |  EEK! All I want to do is sew! I am in LOVE with my new sewing machine & can't wait to monogram EVERYTHING! Do any of you monogram with a mac? I was referred to a program for my computer but it's for Windows!

4  | Thankful to be this crazy guys copilot. In ten days we've traveled through five states, celebrated christmas six times, & exchanged countless hugs! It's been the best season topped off with New Year's plans with our bestests! 2014 is going out with a bang!

hope.

So here we are...That place where the ideas have ran dry & the words are forced.
That place where excuses are easy & avoiding truth might as well be my job.

This place is not easy. And I'm not at all surprised I'm here.
I've seen it coming & despite The Spirit telling me to run away, I'm settled right here.
Like an undisciplined child or a headstrong teenager I've avoided ALL warning signs & flashing lights to get here.

I don't think it's by mistake that I'm going through this life season during this Christmas season.
I think back to the time of Jesus' birth, when Mary received the crazy unexpected news that she would bear a child, that she would have to travel across the country at the most unrealistic time. I think about her thoughts when they told her there was no room for her.

It seems a bit strange to compare my crazy life circumstances to the life of Jesus' mother, but then again, isn't that why Jesus came?
To show us that he loves us enough to experience life WITH us so that we can relate to HIM?

Over the past month I've been so busy. I've missed so much.
But over the weekend Christmas officially begins in our house & I don't want to look back & say that I missed anything.
I can't change the last few weeks, but I can change the way my heart will approach the coming celebrations.

Friends, despite my weary heart at the moment, there is hope.
So. Much. Hope.
In just 13 days we will start a new month & a new year. A time for new goals, & a fresh start.

I'm taking things slow & refreshing my soul for the season.

Frankly my dear...so. much hope.

Mixin' It Up! {Wednesday's Words}

It's Wednesday which means Martha Kate & I usually team up to host Wednesday's Words, but today looks a little different. We are mixin' it up a bit & slowing down for this season. I shared my goals with you yesterday & my last (& favorite) goal for December is to slow down. To make things matter. To enjoy the most wonderful time of the year.

Sharing my faith is incredibly important to me & I don't want to miss that, but I also don't want to miss what's really important just beyond my computer screen. We will be back in January to kick off the new year with Wednesday's Words, but for now, let's enjoy all the things!

Speaking of mixing it up a bit, I've teamed up with some of my bloggy pals to bring you an amazing giveaway! To celebrate the start of the holiday season (and holiday baking!) we are giving away one KitchenAid Stand Mixer to one lucky reader! I know we've all had one of these beauties on our wedding registry or Christmas list before, so I'm thrilled to give you the chance to win one.

December, Darling!

The tree is up & the stockings are hung.
The Christmas music is playing & there are gifts to be wrapped.
It's officially December!

Here's a little recap of what happened in November:

Host our families for Thanksgiving. Check! It was SO wonderful to (most of) our friends & family under one roof. We are so blessed with family & I am so grateful we were able to make it all work.

Participate in Operation Christmas Child. Done. I loved participating in this annual tradition & I am so thankful Hayley from A Beautiful Exchange created this link up! You can check out our box here.

Score some Black Friday deals. Let's be honest, what did I REALLY need? I did score some great boots & few gifts but really I enjoyed spending time with my family more!

Attend the Handmade Vintage Market. YES!!! I can't believe this one is offically checked off my list! I took Etsy shop to a market & it was great! Yay! There's a short recap here!

Blog about Influence & the Renew Blogger Retreat. Womp Womp Womp. And I was doing so well.

Listen to the Allume Conference audio + Take November Influence Class. I really enjoyed listening to a few of the Allume sessions from this year but I haven't completed them all! Unfortunately I didn't get to sit in on the class, but it's in my inbox! Also - Lara Casey's Influence Class is tomorrow at noon! You WON'T want to miss it!

Finish The Best Yes. Unfouratnetly NO. I said Yes to some things that mattered - like Thanksgiving with my family - and some things that didn't - like one too many Target trips - but things are hopefully slowing down!

Be Grateful. Obviously this one is a constant work in progress for everyone. It's so easy to be grateful when my home was filled with the ones I love. But it's easy to complain when they walk out the door. Being grateful is a matter of the heart & I am focusing on keeping it a constant frame of mind!

Continued from November:
Finish The Best Yes
Be Grateful

1. Create a Christmas Baking Bucket List. Have you seen this post by Madison featuring hers? I love that!

2. Celebrate Advent.  Luke & I are starting a new tradition of intentionally celebrating Advent together. We are going through Naptime Diaries devo & loving it so far!

3. Pay it Forward. This time of the year is all about giving the perfect gift - but what if give we give to those we don't even know? I have a couple ideas & I can't wait to share!

4. Traditions. Every family has new & old traditions that really make the Christmas festive. I am a sucker for them & I love starting & continuing new ones with my friends & family. This year I am totally rocking the Sugar Cookie Decorating Tradition!

5. Slow Down. Tis the season for materialism. Let's not be those people. THIS is the season for love, laughter, giving, sharing, baking, reading, singing, & celebrating. Let's be the people who forget about the perfect bow & embrace the act of giving. Let's be the people who stop to look at the lights rather than fuss about their imperfections. Let's be the people who make this season about Jesus!

At risk of sounding too cliche, this really is the most wonderful time of the year! There's a time for everything & now is the time to celebrate!

Frankly my dear...Welcome Darling December!

Giving Thanks

Happy Thanksgiving to my sweet friends!!

It's early as I type. My house & heart is so full! I have family staying here & all over the city. Last night was filled with stories & laughing - and food. Oh, so much food! And the best part we haven't even got to the turkey yet!!

Speaking of, I just got our Turkey Tom out of the oven & he's nice & ready for all the festivities to come. My coffee is warm & the fireplace cracking seems to make for the perfect still morning before all the business of the day takes over. I can't wait to spend the day with the ones I love, but first, I wanted to share something special with each of you.

Yesterday morning my dad shared a scripture that resignated with my soul this time of year:
"There is nothing better for a person than that he should eat and drink and find enjoyment in his toil. This also, I saw is from the hand of God, from apart of him who can eat or who can have enjoyment?" Ecclesiastes 2:24-25

This day we celebrate the fruits of our labor. We celebrate hard work & blessings. And we experience true joy from our Heavenly Father - who apart from we cannot possibly know what real joy or deep love really is.

My entire life would resemble that of a Christian. I was a good girl. I went to church. I looked like a Christian but my soul was not truly His. I lived for myself. My desires, emotions, & feelings were the Lord of my life & it wasn't until HE became the center that I was able to experience true love, heartfelt joy, & overwhelming compassion for others.

"I perceived that there is nothing better for them than to be joyful and to do good as long as they live; also that everyone should eat and drinking and take pleasure in all his toil -- this is God's gift to man."  Ecclesiastes 3:12-13

This day we celebrate the blessings only God can give us - the gift of real joy & all the good things. This day we celebrate one of God's most personal gifts to man by eating and drinking, but let's not forget to pray, in thanksgiving, for the bountiful Provider we have.

I sincerely wish each of you a blessed day & a heart as full as your belly!

Frankly my dear...Happy Thanksgiving!
