Giving Thanks

Happy Thanksgiving to my sweet friends!!

It's early as I type. My house & heart is so full! I have family staying here & all over the city. Last night was filled with stories & laughing - and food. Oh, so much food! And the best part we haven't even got to the turkey yet!!

Speaking of, I just got our Turkey Tom out of the oven & he's nice & ready for all the festivities to come. My coffee is warm & the fireplace cracking seems to make for the perfect still morning before all the business of the day takes over. I can't wait to spend the day with the ones I love, but first, I wanted to share something special with each of you.

Yesterday morning my dad shared a scripture that resignated with my soul this time of year:
"There is nothing better for a person than that he should eat and drink and find enjoyment in his toil. This also, I saw is from the hand of God, from apart of him who can eat or who can have enjoyment?" Ecclesiastes 2:24-25

This day we celebrate the fruits of our labor. We celebrate hard work & blessings. And we experience true joy from our Heavenly Father - who apart from we cannot possibly know what real joy or deep love really is.

My entire life would resemble that of a Christian. I was a good girl. I went to church. I looked like a Christian but my soul was not truly His. I lived for myself. My desires, emotions, & feelings were the Lord of my life & it wasn't until HE became the center that I was able to experience true love, heartfelt joy, & overwhelming compassion for others.

"I perceived that there is nothing better for them than to be joyful and to do good as long as they live; also that everyone should eat and drinking and take pleasure in all his toil -- this is God's gift to man."  Ecclesiastes 3:12-13

This day we celebrate the blessings only God can give us - the gift of real joy & all the good things. This day we celebrate one of God's most personal gifts to man by eating and drinking, but let's not forget to pray, in thanksgiving, for the bountiful Provider we have.

I sincerely wish each of you a blessed day & a heart as full as your belly!

Frankly my dear...Happy Thanksgiving!

Turkey Trimmings Tuesday {Guest Post}

Hello, Frankly My Dear readers! It's Anna from Park Avenue, and I am so excited to be guest posting on Jenni's blog today. I have been working with her this month through a sponsorship, and I couldn't love her blog more- not to mention the awesome giveaways she is always hosting!

With the Thanksgiving holiday being just a few days away, I wanted to share with you a simple, but delicious turkey recipe. My husband and I hosted our first Thanksgiving this year for his family. They all came in from Atlanta this past weekend to celebrate the holiday a little early with us since we will be traveling to my hometown for Thanksgiving Day.

My party-planning, host-loving self was ecstatic about our first official hosting of the most important meal of the year, but my worrisome self was a little scared about attempting to cook the star of the meal- the beloved turkey. Eeekk

I love to cook. But never have I ever cooked a full turkey. So who did I call? My Granny, of course. How do grandma's know everything when it comes to being in the kitchen? With the help of her turkey tips, and a few hours spent pinning turkey recipes, I finally had in mind what I wanted to do. I took things from her recipe that I liked, and a few from others, and made my own little creation!

Here's what you'll need:

12 pound turkey
2 celery stalks
1 yellow onion
1 lemon
1 stick of butter
Lemon Pepper

-Preheat oven to 325 degrees
-Pat turkey dry with paper towels
-Season cavity with salt and lemon pepper
-Over medium heat, melt butter in small skillet
-When butter is just about golden, add 1 stalk of rosemary and 4 or 5 sage leaves
-Cook for 60 seconds in butter
-Pull herbs out of butter and place in turkey cavity
-Chop celery stalks, onion, and lemon in half and put in turkey cavity
-Using a pastry brush (or hands), paint the herb butter from skillet all over the turkey (be overly generous with the butter- this creates that nice golden brown skin)
-Season the whole turkey with salt and lemon pepper
-Place turkey in a roasting pan with a rack
-Lightly place foil over turkey
-Put in the oven and cook for 3 to 3 and 1/2 hours (take foil off for the last hour)
-Let rest for 30 minutes before carving to serve

Turkey Tips:

-Wash turkey and clean out (take the bag and neck out)
-Tuck turkey wings under
-If smaller or bigger than a 12 pound turkey, look at the turkey packaging for cook time

And there it is- a delicious turkey recipe that isn't too much fuss. Everyone loved it, and I have to admit I was very proud of how my first turkey turned out! You can go so many ways when cooking a turkey,  and this is one that is sure to please your guests.

I think it's so fun to take bits and pieces from different recipes and make it your own according to the ingredients you like. I hope you all have a wonderful Thanksgiving dinner, and if you're hosting this year for the first time like me...don't worry- you're going to do GREAT!

Thanks for reading and a big thank you to Jenni for letting me share on her blog today. Check out my blog for more details on my Thanksgiving menu and tables cape.

Happy Thanksgiving!

XO, Anna

Let Us Consider {Wednesday's Words}

It's FINALLY market week, y'all!!
I can't believe I am only HOURS away of making this thing happen!

How is your week?
What's going on? How do you feel?
Maybe you're stressed about work, scared of a decision you need to make, or maybe things are going great. No matter your circumstances this week, I hope you're seeking the Lord.

Have you spent time with him today? Being in God's Word is the ONLY way he have the power to discern his direction. In complete honesty, sometimes it's hard for me to desire getting into God's word, but I am desperately praying for him to give me that desire & to make our time sacred.
My prayer is for you to have that also!

This week, let's encourage one another. The holidays are coming up & as we prepare for a busy season, let's make sure we are filled with HIM to fill others!

Frankly my dear...let us consider!

While I was at the Influence Conference in September I had the pleasure of meeting Rebecca & chatting about her small business called Better Life Bags.

Better Life Bags not only makes gorgeous purses & bags, but they have an inspiring purpose!
To give you a very brief idea of the awesome work they are doing, I snagged this snippet from their webite:
"We hire women, who otherwise could not work, to work for us.  We pay them a living wage (20-25% of the total retail price) and watch them gain dignity, honor, and respect."
You can also hear Rebecca share her heart behind Better Life Bags, small business, & social media on The Influence Network's Podcast!

I am swooning over all this gorgeousness! And you know what? You can even design your own Better Life Bag online and pick your own fabrics and everything! How cool is that?

In order to spread some Christmas cheer your way, I have teamed up with some of my sweet blog friends to give one lucky winner a $100 gift certificate to use towards one of these gorgeous bags!! YAY!

All entries will be verified so play fair! Good Luck and enter to win below! :)

Have a great week, beautiful you!

Inside the Box {OCC}

I have been waiting for this post for weeks now!

Ever since Hayley posted about the #OCCBlogShare, I've been thinking about our shoebox!

You can read all about why I love Operation Christmas Child here but today I am sharing what this sweet girl somewhere in world will receive!

To learn just what Operation Christmas Child is & the history behind it, visit Samaritan's Purse website.

Now, onto the good stuff - What's inside!

The Essentials

The goal of OCC is to provide children around the world with items that are both fun & necessary while also sharing the gospel in their community. Millions of shoeboxes are distrusted to children & families in desperate need. I always love to include items that the children physically need  in the shoeboxes we send. A few essential items I included were a tooth brush & toothpaste, comb, washcloth, tissues, & mini manicure set. Two essential items I wish I would have included (& had room for) were a pair of flip-flops & a t-shirt....but there's always next year!

Now, If I could only see this sweet girl in that still my heart!

The Papery

The paper lover in me is desperate to send some sweet school supplies! Of course I chose the Lisa FRANK activity book & Disney Princess accessories. Some of the items I included for school supplies were paper, pencils, crayons, & a really nifty Little Mermaid pen + flashlight. Pretty cool, huh?!

The Fun Stuff

Of course the box wouldn't be complete without a little fun for our sweet child. I always include some candy in addition to their toys. Some items I included - all disney of course - were jewelry, glow sticks, a puzzle, a Tamborine, sunglasses, & a jump rope.

I know it seems like too many toys may be missing the point, but my prayer is that these fun items would bring joy to this little girl & that she would KNOW she is loved! Nehemiah 8:10 says, "for the joy of the LORD is your strength." And I pray that the joy these things bring would make her strong in spirit!

The Letter

The letter may be one of the most meaningful things for me. I love sharing a photo of our family & writing our little one an encouraging note. I tell them a little bit about us & ask them about their life. I think it's important that despite the fact we will probably never meet the recipient of our boxes, that we pray for our child & lift them up to our heavenly Father who DOES know who they are. He created them for the same purpose that he created us & we should care for them just as deeply as our neighbor we do see daily.

Our shoeboxes take seven days to reach their rightful owners. I want to encourage each of you to take that seven days and each day specifically pray for your child. Prayers that they would be safe, healthy, loved, strengthened, educated. That they would be strong in their circumstances, receptive of the gospel, courageous to share it. We cannot imagine the lives these children live & just praying for understanding & compassion will also help our hearts.

Just like it's not about the toys & toothbrushes, it's what's truly inside that matters. This project is NOT to send presents, it's to send the gospel to the hearts of these children & THAT should be our biggest prayer & motivation in participating in this project!

OCC Blog Share Button

Are you participating in OCC?! I would love to see your box too! Link up with Hayley for the #OCCBlogShare & share with us!

Happy Friday!

Frankly my's what inside that matters!

What do you have to loose?

There are few things in life that you don't skimp on - toilet paper, paper towels, fingernail polish, & beauty products. There are so many brands & products out there that is makes it almost impossible to choose the right thing for you. There are celebrity promotions, picture-perfect model styled advertisements, & even some real life testimonials - but WHO do you believe?

Today I am sharing the story of my friend who knows what products really work & a business that she really believes in. Hannah and I share a love of agriculture & were actually sorority sisters in college. Since then, we've both gotten married & ventured into the real world. When Hannah approached me about her new passion, I could feel the excitement in her words!

Hannah is a Rodan and Fields Independent Consultant who has truly seen the benefits of the products that she sells. This is NOT a sponsored post & I am not receiving anything special for writing this - I genuinely believe in the business & what my friend is doing!
So, when I asked her why she was so passionate about this business this is what she told me:

"I have dealt with acne since Middle school. I never thought my skin was pretty and I was at the point where I was giving up the thought of having pretty skin. I did a round of Accutane in Highschool and it was not 100% successful. I decided that if the hardest thing my dermatologist could give give me didn't work, then I would just figure it out myself. At 23 I found Rodan and Fields and when you get to that point where I was -- where you have tried everything, what is one more regimen? Rodan and Fields comes with a 60-day money back guarantee and that was better than the product graveyard I had acquired. After trying the products, my skin has never looked or felt better. It took me till I was 23 to hear "Your skin is so pretty" and THAT is when I knew I wanted other people to hear that too."

Rodan and Fields has different products targeted for different facial treatments. Each regimen has anti-age components & fall into four categories:
  • Redefine - fine lines, wrinkles, skin tightening
  • Reverse - sun damage, dark spots, Malasma, dullness
  • Soothe - sensitive skin, Rosacea, eczema
  • Unblemish - more than 5 breakouts per month, hormonal/cystic acne, and post acne marks

To get a better idea of what products might be right for you, visit the solution tool. This short questionnaire will allow you to see & order what products would be recommended for your skin!

Hannah explained that she uses the Unblemish Regimen to help control the oil on her face & I am looking forward to trying the face moisturizer from the soothe regimen for this harsh winter! Another  thing I love about Rodan and Fields is that it's affordable!! Even facial treatments you find at stores can be pretty pricey without the results!

Another part of Hannah's story I wanted to share is why she decided to be come a consultant rather than just use the products.

"I joined the business because I am a newlywed. My husband & I lived in a big city with expensive rent and I wanted to be able to go to the movies every once in a while with my husband and pay off some debt. Then, after I realized how much money I could make, my desire to become a consultant grew bigger! This business will help me give GLORY to God through mission trips, sending out missionaries, and help my husband and I adopt one day. (The top earner in the business recently opened up an orphanage in India...there are many of these stories which inspired me to join.) Now, we are expecting our first child and Rodan & Fields fits right in there and is nothing but a blessing."

If you're interested in purchasing Rodan & Fields products, there are three ways! Retail from Hannah's site or sign up to be a Preferred Customer! This allows you to get 10% off & free shipping. For information on becoming a preferred customer or learning about the discounts of being a consultant, email Hannah or visit her site! There is a 60-day, money back guarantee so there's no risk if it doesn't work!

I am the daughter. {Wednesday Words}

Good Morning Ladies!
I am so thrilled you are here this morning.
Things are crazy busy with work & getting ready for the handmade vintage market but I wanted to drop in & give you some encouragement today!

Even though I may not know each you by name, know that I have been praying for you daily! Praying that you would feel his presence & that you are not moved by the world. I also pray that you do not fear - do not fear rejection, incompetency, or sadness. But rather you have joy, peace, & that you may boast in the spirit. You are a daughter of the king - embrace it!

If you have anything specific I can pray for, send me an email!

Frankly my dear...believe you are HIS!
