Day 234

Lover of all things Listey!

If you know me, you know that I love lists…and I don’t just mean the average grocery list or honey-to-do list, but I am talking about lists for my lists! I have always known that I have needed them to survive – as a matter of fact if it weren’t for my highlighted agenda book and plethora of brightly colored sticky notes covered with lists and my pink pens, I would have NEVER made it through my college career.

But my noticeably OCDness with lists came out in full swing today. I work at a desk with a computer in front of me and as you can imagine, after staring at spreadsheets and numbers all day, my mind tends to wander…what am I going to make for dinner, oh that bill is due, did I remember to put that load of laundry in the dryer, is there enough room on my DVR for my favorite show… and so on and so forth until I get so totally lost that I MUST make a list of all the things I should have or need to do.

And that is exactly what happened today. As part of my training I am required to travel on rotations for three weeks and that rotation happens to begin next week…as you can see where this is going…I was sitting at my desk today, immersed in spreadsheets and contracts when it dawned on me that I will be leaving for Nebraska in less than 48 hours and I have yet to even clean my bag out from going home last weekend! My mind was spinning and the next thing I knew my hand was scribbling on the side of a spare sheet of paper with one list and before I knew it I had five lists in front of…FIVE because one BIG list just isn’t good enough.

I am ashamed to say that what happened next… it is a tad embarrassing, but hey, there’s no judgment here right.. So my obsession with lists got the best of me and I got on the internet and even Googled MAKING LISTS! I know it is a bit pathetic…but hey, I am not the only one as 730,000,000 results popped up!

Among the thousands of search results about lists ranging from how to make lists to benefits of making lists, two links caught my eye…the first was to a site that asked a variety of questions from the weather to travel accommodations and activities. It then formulated a packing list…HOW HANDY!

The second was a link to a NPR article entitled: 10 Reasons Why We Love Making Lists– I love this..a list of why we make lists! My favorite part of finding this article is that it reassured me that making lists are not for the crazy, but rather lists can make you smarter…or famous…but interestingly enough, not necessarily more productive!

Another quote I got out of the article was one that they had pulled from the TV Show House, “Enough Organization, enough lists and we think that we can control the uncontrollable.”

When I read this quote it drew my attention to the fact that no matter how many lists I make, I am never the one in complete controllable. Yes, I have free will to make my own decisions, but my GOD, the ONE TRUE creator is the master of all lists and only he can give me the strength to complete all of mine.

In that context..what a BLESSING all those lists really are!

…Frankly My Dear I am a lover of all things listey & I am thankful for a God who is in control!
