Today I am excited to share two of my favorite things – Jesus & Food!
To catch you up a bit, The Bread & Wine Project is a recipe link-up of sorts. It’s a time for us to come together & discuss the book Bread & Wine by Shauna Niequist while also sharing our favorite dishes and desserts! For more information visit Rachel’s blog to learn all about it!
This month’s discussion from the book is:
How do you slow down when it comes to the food you feed your family, and the time you spend with others in your home?
For me, and I am sure most other people, slowing down is becoming foreign. I constantly feel like there is always something to do, somewhere to be, or someone to see. Don’t get me wrong, I am a people person – and I thrive off of being around others & living a life surrounded by others – but at some point, the running has to stop.
Lately I’ve been learning that dinners at home take time. Time that has to be before it’s time to cook.
Meals that have purpose & are full of intention begin with intention. From the meal planning & grocery shopping to preparation & presentation – intention must be weaved in at every step. Slowing down to prioritize what’s important is what kickstarts a slower way of living – & eating.
Nothing replaces eating at home, around a table, with real dishes. Yes, it takes more time to prepare, cook, clean, & organize, but it also allows for stories to be told, emotion to be captured, life to be shared.
Allowing people into our homes is biblical. Jesus ate at the tables of many people throughout the Bible (Matthew 9:10; Mark 2:15). Making a place that is welcoming for others is something that is necessary in my life!
The biggest area I personally need to work on when preparing meals for my husband and for our guests is to be present. Present when planning the meal, present when cooking, & even more present when I am learning about my guests. Distractions are everywhere, but intentionally setting a table for guests means saying NO to the world around us & savoring the life of our company!
How do you intentionally be present around your table?
Frankly my dear…slow down, savor life!
Now it’s YOUR turn to share!
We are so pumped that you are joining us for Wednesday’s Words! There is nothing better than building community & we can’t wait to dive in together!
